sanctum

Sanctum is a small collection of electroformed earthly treasures, embellished with chainmaille weaves to create amuletic armour.

Chainmaille is an ancient artform that originated as a method of creating armour in medieval times, and has since evolved into an expansive and intricate craft with countless weaves and expressions. Learning chainmaille feels like a beautiful homage to ancestral craft traditions, and feels deeply aligned with my ongoing exploration of ancestry, and the journeys, places, and time periods my ancestors may have spanned, alongside as my love of Celtic folklore and paganism.

Working with chainmaille allows me to build intricate scaffolding around beautiful earthly forms, and has opened a wonderful new doorway into honouring and elevating my creations by giving them more structure and showcasing them with the elegance and care they deserve.

I also love incorporating the symbolic wearing of armour and through using this old art form and the fusing together of earthly amulets embedded within armour to ground and protect and invoke the warrior within.

While I’ve been dabbling in chainmaille for some time, this collection is an intentional and official welcoming of this artform into my practice. It feels like a meaningful fusion of the old and the new, and for me is a deeply resonant way to begin this new year in the spirit of taking learnings and expansions from 2025 into a new and reimagined 2026.
